PHASE Scientific Donates 4,000+ INDICAID COVID-19 Tests to The People Concern

The People Concern, a Leading Provider of Homelessness Services, to Bolster Los Angeles Testing Initiatives

(Garden Grove, CA) – July 8, 2022 – PHASE Scientific Americas (PHASE Scientific), a high-growth biotech company, announced that it has donated 4,300 of its approved INDICAID COVID-19 Rapid Antigen At-Home Test (INDICAID OTC) to The People Concern, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is Los Angeles County’s largest social services agency and a leading provider of evidence-based solutions addressing the multi-faceted challenges inherent in homelessness and domestic violence.

The in-kind gift from PHASE Scientific supports The People Concern’s ongoing efforts to provide COVID-19 prevention and testing services to L.A. County’s most vulnerable neighbors.

People experiencing homelessness may be at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 with relatively severe consequences due to older age, underlying medical conditions, lack of access to health resources, and challenges adhering to social distancing and isolation practices. Identifying COVID-19 infections among the homeless cases also help protect the broader population. From the start of the pandemic, The People Concern has implemented multiple measures – including robust testing programs – to address these challenges among the chronically unhoused including:

• Street Outreach – 18 multidisciplinary teams each with a Case Manager, Mental Health Clinician, Medical Professional, and Peer Advocate engage people experiencing homelessness, including providing them with COVID-19 Rapid Antigen testing.
• Interim Housing – 9 interim housing facilities in which program participants and staff are provided COVID-19 testing a minimum of once a week and more frequently when it becomes necessary to quarantine a facility.
• Permanent Housing – provide wraparound services to more than 2,700 formerly unhoused individuals living in permanent supportive housing. This program, and all others operated by The People Concern, incorporate case management, medical and mental health care, substance use services, income assistance, and wellness education including information and access to COVID-19 testing.

The INDICAID COVID-19 Rapid Antigen At-Home Test is authorized for non- prescription home use.
